Can-Do DNA, Resilient Futures
Kandou is built on a can-do mindset and a simple responsibility: bring deep technical rigor to complex structural questions, and keep the answers clear and buildable. We take our name from the honeycomb, one of nature’s most elegant and efficient structural systems, and a reminder that strength and efficiency should go together.
Our point of view on resilience was shaped by real earthquakes. Kandou’s founder grew up in an earthquake-prone region and carries difficult memories of cities shaken, families displaced, and livelihoods interrupted long after the shaking stops. That experience formed a conviction: the real measure of seismic design is not only whether a building stands, but how quickly people can return to their lives and work.
Delivering that outcome requires more than calculations. It takes a full toolbox, and the judgment to use it well. Kandou’s approach is informed by experience across design, construction, product certification, and seismic risk, with a focus on translating complex technical results into clear stories that help teams make confident decisions.
Kandou brings structural engineering and testing together in a one-stop practice. We use automation and custom software to study many design paths quickly, search for the right structural system, and make advanced analysis practical within real budgets and schedules. The goal is simple: use the full toolbox when it helps, and keep solutions clean, buildable, and resilient.
We also pay close attention to the broader impact of our work. We avoid unnecessary overdesign and disruption, and we look for efficient paths forward that respect existing buildings, construction timelines, and material use. Like the best structures, we want the firm to be lean, adaptable, and ready for the future we are designing toward.
